# Spotify Now Playing

> Show the song you are currently listening to in your freelancer profile popover

# Spotify Now Playing

Add a little personality to your Freelancer Page by showing the track you are currently playing on Spotify. Visitors can see the song and artist in your profile popover and open the track directly in Spotify.

> Spotify Now Playing is currently available as a limited beta. The connection option only appears for PayRequest accounts that have been enabled for the beta.

## What Visitors See

When you are actively playing music, your profile popover shows:

* The Spotify icon
* **Now listening on Spotify**
* The track title
* The artist name
* A link that opens the track on Spotify

The music itself is not embedded or played through PayRequest. PayRequest only displays the current track information and links visitors back to Spotify.

When playback is paused or Spotify cannot provide a current track, the entire Spotify section is hidden. Your profile therefore never shows an empty player or an outdated “now playing” status.

## Connect Spotify

**1. Open your PayRequest Page settings**

In the PayRequest dashboard, go to **PayRequest Page**, open **Settings**, and scroll to **Showcase**.

**2. Open your Freelancer profile settings**

Enable **List me on the Showcase** if needed. The Spotify option appears with your other freelancer profile settings when your account has beta access.

**3. Connect your account**

Click **Connect Spotify**. Spotify opens its authorization screen so you can sign in and approve read-only access to your currently playing track.

**4. Start listening**

Play a track in Spotify, then open your public PayRequest Page and click or hover over your profile photo to see the result.

> Spotify information is cached briefly. After changing tracks, allow up to 30 seconds for your public profile to update.

## Privacy and Permissions

PayRequest requests only the Spotify permission needed to read what is currently playing. The connection does not let PayRequest:

* Start, pause, or skip your music
* Change your playlists or saved songs
* Post anything to Spotify
* Play Spotify audio on your PayRequest Page

Your Spotify tokens are stored encrypted. Visitors only receive the public track title, artist, and Spotify link while playback is active.

## Disconnect Spotify

To remove the integration:

1. Go to **PayRequest Page → Settings → Showcase**
2. Find **Spotify — Listen now**
3. Click **Disconnect**

The Spotify section disappears from your public profile immediately. You can reconnect later by completing the Spotify authorization flow again.

## Troubleshooting

> **The Spotify section is not visible**
>
> Make sure a track is actively playing and is not paused. The section is intentionally hidden when no current playback is available.

> **I changed tracks but still see the previous song**
>
> Wait up to 30 seconds and reopen the profile popover. PayRequest briefly caches Spotify responses to keep public pages fast and respect API limits.

> **The Connect Spotify button is missing**
>
> Spotify Now Playing is in limited beta. Contact [PayRequest support](mailto:support@payrequest.io) to ask whether your account can be enabled.

> **Spotify asks me to authorize again**
>
> Spotify connections can expire or be revoked. Return to your Freelancer Page settings and reconnect your Spotify account.
