Onboarding

When you first subscribe to PayRequest, you’ll be guided through a simple 5-step onboarding process to set up your account. This ensures you have everything configured to start accepting payments quickly.

Overview

The onboarding flow helps you:
  • Select your country and language
  • Add your business details (auto-filled based on country)
  • Create your sales page
  • Connect your payment provider (Mollie or Ponto)
  • Create your first product (optional)
You can skip optional steps and come back to them later from your dashboard settings.

Step 1: Country & Language Selection

Select where your business is based using our interactive world map.

World Map Selection

  1. Click on the world map to select your country
  2. Hover over countries to see their names
  3. Your selected country will be highlighted in blue
  4. A green checkmark confirms your selection

Auto-Fill Features

When you select a country, we automatically configure:

Language Options

You can adjust the auto-selected language if needed:
  • 🇬🇧 English
  • 🇳🇱 Nederlands (Dutch)
  • 🇩🇪 Deutsch (German)
  • 🇫🇷 Français (French)
  • 🇪🇸 Español (Spanish)
Your language preference affects the dashboard interface, system emails, and default invoice language. You can change it anytime from Settings.

Step 2: Business Details

Enter your company information for invoices and legal compliance. Many fields are pre-filled based on your country selection. Required Information:
  • Company Name: Your business or trading name
  • Company Address: Full business address for invoices
Pre-Filled Information (editable):
  • Currency: Based on your country (EUR for Europe)
  • Tax Rate: Default VAT rate for your country
  • Tax Region: Your tax jurisdiction
Optional Information:
  • VAT Number: If VAT registered (e.g., NL123456789B01)
  • VAT Registered: Toggle if you charge VAT
Make sure your business details are accurate - they appear on all invoices sent to customers.

Step 3: Sales Page Setup

Create your personal sales page where customers can pay you.

Sales Page URL

Your sales page URL will be: payrequest.me/yourhandle Handle Requirements:
  • Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only
  • Must be unique (system checks availability)
  • Green checkmark = available
  • Red X = already taken

Customization Options

Tagline: A short description (e.g., “Web Developer & Designer”) Profile Picture: Choose a source for your avatar:
  • X (Twitter)
  • GitHub
  • YouTube
  • Twitch
Enter your username and we’ll automatically fetch your profile picture. Payment Settings:
  • Allow Custom Amount: Let customers enter any amount
  • Minimum Amount: Set a minimum payment (default €1.00)

Shop Language (Business Plan)

If you’re on the Business plan, the shop language is automatically set based on your country selection from Step 1.

Step 4: Payment Provider

Connect a payment provider to start accepting payments. Available providers depend on your country.

Mollie (European Businesses Only)

Mollie is available for businesses in:
  • All EU countries (Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, etc.)
  • United Kingdom
  • Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein
Connecting Mollie:
  1. Click “Connect” on the Mollie card
  2. You’ll be redirected to Mollie
  3. Authorize PayRequest to access your account
  4. You’ll be returned to onboarding automatically
What Mollie Enables:
  • Accept iDEAL, credit cards, Bancontact, SEPA
  • Create subscriptions with automatic recurring billing
  • Sync customers and transactions
  • Process refunds from your dashboard

Ponto (Bank Transfers & Open Banking)

Ponto is available in 46 countries including:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States
Connecting Ponto:
  1. Click “Connect” on the Ponto card
  2. Follow the Ponto authorization flow
  3. Link your bank account
  4. You’ll be returned to onboarding automatically
What Ponto Enables:
  • Accept bank transfers
  • Open Banking payments
  • Automatic payment matching
  • Bank account synchronization

Country Not Supported?

If no payment providers are available for your country, you’ll see a message with a link to contact support at [email protected]. We’re continuously expanding our supported countries.
You can add additional payment providers later from Settings → Payment Providers.

Step 5: First Product (Optional)

Create your first product to start selling immediately.

Product Type Selection

Choose the type of product you want to create: Digital Product (All Plans)
  • E-books, software, downloads
  • One-time payment
Service (Business Plan)
  • Consulting, design work
  • One-time payment
Subscription (Business Plan)
  • Recurring memberships
  • Monthly billing

Product Details

Product Name: Clear, descriptive name for your product Description: Explain what customers get (can be added later) Price: Amount in your currency
  • For subscriptions, this is the monthly price
Tax Rate: Based on your country’s default (can customize)

AI Image Generation

Don’t have a product image? Generate one with AI!
  1. Enter your product name
  2. Optionally add a description for better context
  3. Click “Generate with AI” (sparkles icon)
  4. Wait 15-30 seconds for generation
  5. Image is automatically saved with your product
AI-generated images work great for digital products and services. Use descriptive product names for best results.

Price Preview

As you enter the price and tax rate, you’ll see a live preview:
  • Subtotal
  • Tax amount
  • Total (what customer pays)
For subscriptions, it shows “Total per month”.

Skipping This Step

If you don’t want to create a product now:
  • Click “Skip & Finish” to complete onboarding
  • You can create products anytime from Products in your dashboard

During onboarding, the right sidebar shows your progress with dynamic updates:

Completion

After completing all steps, you’ll see a success screen confirming your account is ready. Click “Go to Dashboard” to access your PayRequest dashboard and start:
  • Creating invoices
  • Adding more products
  • Managing customers
  • Viewing transactions

Troubleshooting

Mollie Connection Issues

If Mollie connection fails:
  1. Make sure you have a verified Mollie account
  2. Ensure your business is in a supported European country
  3. Try the connection again from Settings → Payment Providers
  4. Check your Mollie dashboard for any pending verifications

Ponto Connection Issues

If Ponto connection fails:
  1. Verify your country is in the supported list
  2. Ensure your bank supports Open Banking
  3. Try connecting again from Settings → Ponto

Handle Already Taken

If your preferred URL handle is taken:
  • Try adding numbers (e.g., yourname1)
  • Use your full business name
  • Add your city or specialty

No Payment Providers Available

If you see “no payment providers available for your country”:
  • Contact [email protected] for assistance
  • We may be able to suggest alternative solutions
  • Check back later as we expand to new countries

Can’t Complete Onboarding

If you’re stuck:
  • Refresh the page and try again
  • Use the live chat (Crisp) for immediate support
  • Email [email protected]
The live chat is available during onboarding - look for the chat widget in the bottom right corner.
